Background and the Problem

The kitchen and the study share a wall with one opening between them, 93 inches tall and 32 inches wide. The homeowner has a study area set up on the other side of that wall.

The kitchen needs its blinds open most of the time to get enough light, but that light comes straight through the shared opening and lands on the study's desktop monitor, creating glare — even when the study's own blinds are closed for computer use.

The Goal

The homeowner needed a way to control the light coming through this opening and block it from the kitchen side reaching the study. Because of how little space there is around the opening, a swinging door wasn't a practical option.

The Solution

We installed a metal curtain rod with a fabric curtain across the opening, along with a tie-back anchored to the wall. The curtain closes to block the light and can be tied back out of the way when it isn't needed.
